I’m not sure why I wasn’t particularly impressed by The Grand Budapest Hotel the first time I saw it. I don’t think I was very convinced by the Stefan Zweig influence, and that might have coloured my view. However, taken on its own, this film - second time around - definitely ranks as one of Wes Anderson’s best. The characters fit in to the director’s stylised world perfectly; Ralph Fiennes’ performance, in particular, is flawless. And, best of all, there were no fake Central or Eastern European accents!
