The first of two secret screenings at Fantastic Fest.
Eddie Murphy hasn’t been this good in years. He’s a knockout.
Dolemite Is My Name is a hilarious and joyful biopic of the wonderful Rudy Ray Moore who would go on to be a King of blaxploitation films. The first half plays like a fun but entertaining biopic but it’s in the 2nd half where we see Rudy make his motion picture where this film comes alive. A love letter to dreams and the arts that deserves the same kind of love and attention that ED WOOD and THE DISASTER ARTISTS has received. The film also delivers a beautiful message of representation that couldn’t be more timely. I can’t wait for the world to see this.
I enjoyed this so much I purchased the original Dolemite and can’t wait to watch it endlessly now.
