100 Must See Horror Movies Scratch Off number 31 - Scream
One of my absolute favorite films of all time that not only introduced me to the horror genre but to the convention scene as well. Scream taught me the horror tropes and rules that I know smilingly point out while watching my favorite slashers. It’s meta, it’s dark, it’s funny (the liver alone joke makes me laugh every time). The casting is spot on and everyone just feels authentic. There are also some great shots - Ghostface reflected in Principal Himbry’s pupils for example just looks wicked. A few years back I went on a trip to California to visit some of the shooting locations and party at Stu’s house which was such a blast. I watched Scream on VHS at scene 118 and it was glorious! It also got super foggy early in the morning and added some authentic spooky vibes.
Also, Scream is the most quotable movie of all time, I’ll argue it all day.
“What’s that werewolf movie with ET’s mom in it?”
“Now Sid, don’t you blame the movies. Movies don’t create psychos. Movies make psychos more creative!”
“What is this? I spit on your garage?”
