James Wan has gone all out with the horror tropes, incorporating all the genres in one bag. From bumps in the night, to brutal revenge killings, body horror, possession, supernatural elements, which all lead to an over-the-top rampage with a spectacular body count.
So, whatever your horror preference, Wan's got you covered.
There's also something intentionally trashy about it, like an obscure low budget slasher flick from the 90s, with everyone acting like they're part of a soap opera gone bad, before it turns into Assault on Precinct 13: The Berserker Edition.
It's perhaps Wan's idea of a cool Giallo for the masses.
I can't say I'm fan, but those last 20 minutes certainly paid off.
