I don't even know what to say. I remember watching this in 3rd grade music class and hating it, but watching it now...HOLY SHIT it's very good. I never thought I'd rate a musical this high, and I was actually close to giving it a 4, but all the technical aspects are just so good that I HAD to give it a 4.5.
The camera techniques are what surprised me the most. The camera is constantly moving and gliding all over the place the entire time (just like in La La Land), and its pretty rare to see something like that in a '50s movie. The set design is another thing that blew me away. Every environment and location is really unique and looks amazing, and the colors of the sets were very well-done. Everything else about the movie was also pretty perfect. The cast of characters, the music and dance choreography, the story was simple yet done well, and everything is just so meticulously executed.
This is just a super enjoyable, fun, and entertaining movie that I feel is way ahead of its time. It HAS to be the best musical of all time, it's literally magic put on screen. Usually I don't like musicals, but this, La La Land, and a few others are exceptions because they actually use the musical style to its full potential. Definitely recommend watching this if you've never seen it.
