    ★★★★

It's open season on the rich people and ... personally I'm loving it

  • Joker

    Joker

Joaquin Phoenix gives a performance of a life time, he is able to make his character both beautiful and despicable. We feel his vulnerability but also like there’s an imminent danger always lingering, a true wolf in sheep clothes. The violent and narcissistic aspects of Arthur stay very true to the substance of the character Joker from the source material while modernizing it to suit a very poignant problem in our society.
Phoenix gives a very nuanced performance that captures…

  • Terminal

    Terminal

    ★½

Got to love Margot Robbie' s Harley Quinn performance even though she's in the wrong movie.
Redeeming quality: cinematography and costume design

  • Batman Ninja

    Batman Ninja

    ★★½

Batman Ninja is a wild, fun and entertaining movie. While silly at times and a third act that doesn't match the quality of the beginning Batman Ninja has some of the best portrayals of the Batman characthers I've seen in a while, specially the main villains: Joker and Harley Quinn. Their dynamic is spot on, it's a refreshing take on their romance but still remaining very true to their characters and their origins.
Stunning visuals, interesting character designs and some great plot twist that elevate the story making this movie a great addition to the DC animated collection.

  • Grave of the Fireflies

    Grave of the Fireflies

    ★★★★★

A survivor story that doesn't shy away from showcasing the horrors of the war in a truly heartbreaking way. Every emotional beat is powerful and deeply felt as we follow the sacrifices of the older brother to provide food and shelter for his charming and innocent younger sister. A true masterpiece!

  • The Florida Project

    The Florida Project

    ★★★★

Starts off with rather unlikable characters that become endearing with the progression of the story. A window into the daily life of a struggling society while giving us access to the point of view of both adults and children, The Florida Project does a good job of creating a balance between the colourful settings and charm of the younger characters opposing the crash reality they belong to. With strong performances, well directed and with a powerful narrative The Florida Project is definitely worth watching.

  • I, Tonya

    I, Tonya

    ★★★★

I Tonya is a very entertaining and unconvential movie with outstanding performances by Margot Robbie, Allison Janney and Sebastian Stan.
With great ice skating sequences, dark humour and original narrative methods, I Tonya successfully presents a new take of a well known American scandal and a new perspective into the story of disgraced figure skate Tonya Harding highlighting and celebrating her accomplishment of completing the triple axle and talent.

  • Phantom Thread

    Phantom Thread

    ★★★

Phantom Thread benefits from amazing acting in all fronts, lavish settings and dream worthy couture. The movie presents us an interesting study of romantic relationships, the steps of falling in love and the challenges that come with being involved with an egocentric artist. Sadly the movie falls apart in the third act with a jaw opening ending twist that takes the movie to a narrative low. Even though the end falls flat the potential presented, the acting carrying the story and the aesthetic craft elevates the movie enough to make it worth your while.

  • Batman: Gotham by Gaslight

    Batman: Gotham by Gaslight

    ★★★

An upgrade from the source material, Batman by Gaslight takes an interesting elsewhere story to an entertaining level. Suspenseful, incorporated with great fight sequences and an unexpected end twist this new addition to DC's animated feature only suffers from weak animation, even though reminiscent of Batman animated series, it is too juvenile to appeal to more mature audiences which are the target.
