  Ok I will probably be seated on opening night for anything else Emerald Fennell makes in the future. She’s the queen of taking escapist underdog tropes and making them needlessly realistic in a sort of offputting way. Like what if I said I was going to make an ‘eat the rich’ story and then it was actually about… middle-class anxiety. And yeah the lead character is off his fucking nut because that’s the only sort of person that would willingly associate/get…

  THIS is the role i’ll always remember Martin Freeman in. Mr Maddens is actually iconic; man is on the verge of killing himself throughout the full thing. Regularly breaks down into tears and then ends up putting on the play because “what are they going to do? Fire me twice- I think the fuck not.” Just says to hell with it and puts on an Oscar-worthy primary school Christmas play.
