When I first watched Minari, I think I was entirely wrapped up in the beauty of the actual filmmaking and the story that I wasn’t really thinking about how much all of it meant to me.
Second viewing, I felt what every single minute of this movie means to me. I saw myself, I saw my dad, I saw so much of my own relationship with my halmeoni. I saw so many moments of my life growing up living with my grandparents.
It’s hard to put all my thoughts into words so I think I’ll just go call my grandma instead.
Ok I’m gonna go for a non-spoiler brain dump. Also I’ll preface that I’m writing this on my subway home from just having watched so I haven’t necessarily let it sink in yet but I’m just excited.
- 5 stars is not because I think it was perfect but because it was probably the best experience I’ve ever had watching a movie in a theatre. It was epic in every sense of the word.
