I don’t know why it’s rated so low. I’m neither deeply invested in its fanfiction nor privy to Christopher Reeve’s portrayal but having watched Henry Cavill’s version and if you could put that lens away, Superman Returns is a decent superhero movie. Routh is convincing, he resembles Reeve and has the looks for the role which seems to be important for Superman characters considering the casting choices. However, action could possibly let you down. Spacey as an antagonist is weak. This could have been better, but I enjoyed it.
The first hour makes you doubt if it’s a spy movie let alone a Mission Impossible movie. Almost no action, Hunt on a boring mission, and a love story we could do without. Maybe Cruise wanted to take the story to his then-wife, Kidman’s homeland but it was a poor script choice to shoehorn a half-baked love story while we could have been treated with decent action choreography as one would expect after the first installment. Lack of intriguing characters, mundane action reduced to a chase sequence, and yet again, Cruise hanging by the rope, only this time, stealing a life-threatening virus. I was disappointed.
I believe I'm in the minority here, I felt Fargo is highly overrated. I don't see what the majority sees. I read raving reviews which rose my expectations but it's a run-of-the-mill crime film touted as a thriller. If it's an acquired taste, maybe I need to watch more Coen Brothers' movies.
It's a decent plot—a frustrated husband wants his wife kidnapped for a ransom from his wealthy father-in-law. The kidnappers are one-of-a-kind. Obviously, the plan goes down the tubes…
Is french beautiful or beautiful french?
Probably one of the most favorited films on LB and going by the consensus, I was extremely curious. I didn't know it's french and reading the subtitles was bothering me due to its fast-paced narrative. I don't even want to attempt to summarize the plot—let's just say, the titular character played by Audrey Tautou is an introvert and finds joy in doing little things to make people around her happy.
The story moves faster…
