Went to see this because there are few things I like more than beards and cats, and on that front this film obviously delivered. Oscar Isaac is devastatingly handsome, as is the cat. I suppose it helps that I do enjoy this type of music, because other than the beard, cat and music, there's not much to the film. It's shot beautifully, absolutely, but left me cold.
I think I was born without the gene that makes you love Coen brothers films. The last 10 minutes are the perfect example of my ambivalence to the Coens, I can't help but feel they always rely on some gimmick in the structure of the screenplay. I don't need a traditional, paint-by-numbers screenplay, but in more ways than one, the film ends before it's finished. Bonus points for marking the three acts with cat-related stuff, though!
