Who knew such a simple concept like "hey just be fucking nice to people" could feel so profound in today's society.

It's been a rough year for me personally. Every once in a while a movie comes along and its exactly what you need to watch. This was that for me.

    Letterboxd 8.0: Spooky Season

    NO CRITERIA

Toho Studios: Nobuhiko Obayashi, we'd like you to make a movie like Jaws. Think you can handle that?

Obayashi: Yeah, totally doable. Hey, Chigumi, daughter of mine, can you give me some ideas for a film?

Chigumi: A WATERMELON TURNS INTO A HEAD AND BITES SOMEONE'S BUTT. A CAT VOMITS BLOOD. A GIRL GETS EATEN BY A PIANO. A GIRL WHO'S REALLY GOOD AT KUNG FU FIGHTS A PHONE AND LOSES TO A LAMPSHADE. MATTRESSES THAT FIGHT YOU.

Obayashi: You're right, those totally sound like Jaws. *makes this movie*

    Toho Studios: ....uhhhhhh.

I think it helps going into Memento knowing that nothing is going to make sense, and you're going to be confused most of the time. It helps with not feeling so dumb.

Probably Chris Nolan's best work, barring maybe The Dark Knight.

Heist movies and me don't normally get along. But this was a shit ton of fun.

Vinnie Jones is always a delight.

Others on here have said this, but for the love of God, why would you cast Brad Pitt in this role when Colin Farrell is right fucking there?!

I watch this every year, and every year, when it gets to Miss Jessica's psychedelic "I'm gonna be me" song, I'm like "wtf, I don't remember this at ALL."

Film School Drop Outs, Week 2: Gloria Swanson

Gloria Swanson is a terrifyingly good actress.

Billy Wilder's use of actors and directors playing themselves as a way to comment on the filmmaking practices of the day, and the transition from silent films to talkies, was a stroke of genius (poor Buster Keaton looked absolutely fucking miserable, although that might have been cause he was losing [?] at bridge).

Max von Stroheim might be one of my favorite actors of all time, despite the fact that I've only seen him in this and Grand Illusion.

What a final scene. Heartbreaking and glorious and sad.
