Terrific story. It's a pretty generic oscar-bait film overall, though the anachronistic soundtrack was a nice touch.

Half baked. Garbage ending that makes the characters seem like absolute psychopaths. Even outside of that, it requires such an incredible amount of suspension of disbelief. Alex Winter can't act outside of Bill and Ted

    The Disappointments Room

Incredibly derivative and amateurish. Makes me wonder if I ever really liked Kate Beckinsale as an actress tbh

For a movie that is coming up on 14 years old, this has fantastic animation. The textures are beautiful. Loved the fight choreography as well.

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead

Terrific performances, but I can't help feeling like it would've been better if it was presented without flashbacks and in less of a washed out digital look

  • Fear and Loathing in Aspen

    Fear and Loathing in Aspen

Jay Bulger is the best Hunter S Thompson to ever grace the screen. Johnny Depp fits Gilliam's tone for Fear and Loathing, but feels almost like a parody to me, and I would assume to most of those who have read his work.

But the first act of the movie is ugly, and a slog. Almost turned it off. The rest is better, but Hunter is by far the best thing that this movie has going for it. I put Jay's other movie on Letterboxd on my watchlist only because of how well he did in this.

  • Project X

    Project X

As a longtime fan of American Ultra, it was finally time to check out Nourizadeh's other feature.

Had a great time. Funny and wild without having to rely on grossout or moral shock tactics. Kinda figured there'd be a statutory scene or subplot, like every other teen party movie, and was happily proven wrong.

A killer soundtrack, frenetic pace, and a crisp 88 min runtime all add up to a seal of approval for Project X

Well, I thought I'd hate this. So there's that.

  • Gun Shy

Absolute schlock, but in a fun and funny one-watch type of way

  • The Midnight Sky

    The Midnight Sky

Wasn't expecting to like this nearly as much as I did. Somber, and beautiful to look at.

I've seen quite a few people on here saying that it felt eternal, but imo it doesn't overstay its welcome. They could've dragged out the ending for ages, but it's sweet and to the point.
