Ready or Not

Ready or Not ★★★★

"Uh, dominion, we prefer dominion."

"Ready or Not" really just came out of nowhere and not in a negative way at all either, thankfully. This was the perfect little gem to cap off a very disappointing Summer movie season, one that almost needed to happen to finally bring some interesting variety to the multiplexes that were drowning in lazy sequels and forgotten misfortunes.

The success of the film lays glaringly on lead Samara Weaving's shoulders and she carries the film all the way to the finish line and then keeps on going for good measure. She is a bonafide star and one that deserves to be put in as much as she possibly can, from horror films to big budget blockbusters, too.

The plot is always entertaining and a wholly original step-up from quite a lot of horror films I have seen recently. In addition to this, I was actually on the edge of my seat for a large majority of it and I was a little taken aback by this because I can't remember a movie where I was actively thrilled to the point where it delivers on the promise of keeping audiences "on the edge of their seats", but this movie did it so props to it.

"Ready or Not" is a rollicking good time at the theater thanks to its subversive, smart writing, confident direction and stellar entertainment value that seemed to be lacking throughout the entirety of the Summer movie season. It is a complete blast from start to finish and a necessary breath of fresh air in terms of delivering an original and thrilling horror/thriller hybrid.

And that ending that is one of the best ones in recent memory and a total blast to witness on the big screen.
