this was a blind buy during the Criterion sale; couldn’t have been happier with the quality of this gem. my inexperience with Demme’s pretty extraordinary, having only seen two of his films (and both of those films within the last five years.) if they’re all going to be as good as this and Melvin and Howard, wow. if even five more are almost as good as this and Melvin and Howard, i’ll still have a new favorite auteur.
Jeff Daniels and Melanie Griffith have such an infectious way of playing off of one another, and both give incredible performances. the soundtrack is beautiful, too! opening with a David Byrne song and just building with each new track. i love this brutally honest screwball comedy.
