Like Fargo mixed with Sling Blade and not NEARLY enough of that signature Raimi style to make this great. It's got a solid enough story, adapted from a novel of the same name. It's set in rural Minnesota which is awfully close to Fargo, North Dakota and there is an awful lot of similarities between those two movies. It's really not fair to compare this to Fargo, a film that was once named to AFI's 100 best films of all-time. If I remember correctly, there were a ton of these thrillers in the 90s that all seemed to be based around money and death. While A Simple Plan doesn't really have enough unique elements to set itself apart from these other movies, it does manage to grip your attention and execute it's ideas pretty smoothly.
