Sarah Ramalho’s review published on Letterboxd:
Very classically cinematic, very long, very bleak. Very very bleak. Just...so bleak. My stomach turned a couple of times.
I’m trying to grab a hold of the intent behind this film. I don’t think it has anything new to say as far as “evil religious people” goes. It’s really just a stuttering sequence of events playing around the themes of people being shitty - with lots of human moments peppered in. But the whole thing kind of just feels like it was done for fun, which to me makes it even more bleak. If there was a point it flew high above my head.
However, I appreciated the simple score and how it was used. Very Shawshanky.
