First Icelandic movie I’ve ever seen and it was pretty damn good. Benedikt Erlingsson’s direction is strong with great cinematography and some beautiful shots of the Icelandic landscape. Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir gives a strong, compelling performance as both the lead Halla and her twin sister Ása. Probably my favourite part of the film was the score, it sounded very reminiscent of the score from Alejandro G. Iñarritu’s Birdman but more Icelandic. The score is really fucking cool and unique is what I’m saying. Getting a Mubi account was the best choice of 2020.

It’s literally just two guys in the woods with a cow why is it so fucking good? Next to nothing happened for most of the runtime and that’s not an exaggeration - the titular cow shows up for the first time about 20 minutes in and then it isn’t seem again until the 50 minute mark. Now, I normally don’t like films where nothing happens yet this is the fastest that 2 hours have gone by since I watched The Wolf of Wall Street. This film deserves at least an Oscar nomination for the costumes. And the cow deserves Best Lead Actress.

A great film about some of the worst people society has to offer. It is terrifying that people like the skinhead, racist antisemites exist. About 40 minutes in, Derek makes points against race riots that are almost word for word the points I’ve seen used to discredit the riots resulting from George Floyd’s death, seriously it is fucking terrifying. Edward Norton’s performance is great, as is Edward Furlong’s. American History X is a great and terrifying movie and I advise everyone to watch it.
