My reactions at the cinema included much laughter and tears so, to be fair, my rating should be closer to a 4 because I was mostly deep inside this film. I love films told from a child's pov, and I am convinced that Waititi is one of the best child directors ever.
The performances in this are all great. Thomasin Mckenzie was, once again, outstanding. I was even surprised at how wonderful Scarlett J. was in this even though I've always liked her.
The music choices were fantastic as were the quirky tone that I have always admired in his films. I suppose it was just one particular storyline that felt abrupt enough that it pulled me all the way out and this made it not rise to the mastery I'd hoped for. Still, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this (especially to Waititi fans).
