War has no winners
Kurosawas third and final take on Shakespeare is a testament both to his respect for the source material, and to the directing abilities of Kurosawa himself.
I can't help but think adaptations of Shakespeare often fail and yet Kurosawa delivers eberytime.
In Ran Kurosawa defies expectations. The humanist themes of his other films aren't present, we are truly shown a brutal Shakespearian tragedy.
One can't help but feel that Ran represents an almost fully evolved maturity, a final samurai swansong for one of the worlds most gifted directors.
