Upgrade ★★★★½

Instead of Grey yelling "I'm going insane!!!", I think it would have been awesome if he would have said "I'm possessed!!!". And then there could have been a scene in a supermarket where Martin Short bagged his groceries. (y'know, like Innerspace...?)

I. Love. This. Movie.
I giddily geeked out over just about every scene. My wife had to tell me to calm down a few times, as I left my seat on several occasions (I tend to watch horror and scifi movies like other dads watch football). But this film made me feel like a kid again watching Robocop or Terminator for the first time and I couldn't help it. I don't know if it "technically" warrants comparisons like that, but I kinda don't care. I felt the same. Also, read my bio...

That being said, I don't think Upgrade should have been marketed as horror. I mean, there's some gore, but in my opinion, the blood plays more into it being just a particularly violent, action scifi. I even read some reviews using the label "body horror", but I don't completely agree with that either. Or maybe I'm just desensitized af...

The kind of movie this IS, though, is fantastic. It's a super fun, slick, deceitfully simple thrill ride that entertains from start to finish. I was worried it was just gonna be another retread through the likes of its 80's/90's scifi predecessors (I could literally list 15 movies, I mean I already dropped 3...but I'll spare you), but it successfully remains fresh and unique throughout. And that wide open, begging-for-a-good-sequel ending is one of it's best qualities.

I've watched it 4 times in the last 3 days. So yeah - more than highly recommend. Upgrade is soooooo much fun.
