As an unnecessarily rigid rule follower* myself, I really clicked with how this movie evolves into a series of what are essentially preordained actions fulfilled out of the duty and honor these men have a code...a code that would mean nothing without their adherence to it in the first place! Pretty twisted, but also pretty poetic. Pollack directs it, sort of? Easily could have started the movie with Kilmer's return to Japan, but instead he takes the time to walk…
A cinematic tour de force. An impassioned, moving, heart-racing, heart-breaking film that reminded me how good it can feel to be alive. Watching this made me fall back in love with movies and with life.
