Aaron Michael’s review published on Letterboxd:
I feel much more confident in calling CAROL a modern masterpiece upon rewatch. The first time around I felt a lot of tension between what I thought the film might be versus what it ended up being. This time, knowing what to expect, I was able to relish in the world that Todd Haynes crafts, the story he tells, and the love story being told on the screen.
Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara give incredible performances. They're incredible because of how much they aren't allowed to do, but they still are able to convey so much within such small spaces. The story benefits greatly from a fantastic visual narrative that Haynes builds from the very opening scene.
No offense but this is one of the best films of the modern era.
