Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone ★★★★

Aye, ya yi! I’m back. I don’t even know where to begin. Technically I watched this nearly a week ago, as I’ve been coasting through different franchises and kicking off another hp marathon spree. Yay! I wanted to write a review but I’ve had no time or energy really. And over the past months I’ve dropped hints in reviews that something was up and I can finally say unfortunately my mom passed which is why I’ve been kind of flaky. And may disappear sometimes depending on my mood or get a tad emotional in reviews. Granted Covid isolation doesn’t help— if you’re outside the US let’s just say you’re lucky right now. It’s a hot mess over here.

Anyway I kind of wish I could just write a crazy mashup review of films I meant review in a single review. Princess Bride meets HP meets Star Trek vs Manchurian Candidate, etc. that would be wild. ... As for HP #1 simply put this is maxed out childhood wonder, that always feels comforting and full of mystery and adventure that I can’t ever get enough of. It’s the perfect blend of magic and imagination. An always takes me back to the joy of discovering HP as a young teen for the first time. Absolutely splendid! Maybe not the best of the films, but the director effortlessly captures the spirit of not only the first book surprisingly well, but the enchantment of magic for people of all ages. So I dare say it may be one the best adaptation’s and children’s films alongside the likes of E.T. and mostly I wouldn’t change it for the world.
