They don't make 'em like they used to. Well, no one else has made a movie that closely resembles this one, so this is one of a kind. Interesting shots of late 1970s or early 80s NYC. The two characters talk about their careers and many other subjects. Andre tells tales of exotic adventures. A conversation can be entertaining and can be entertainment. I look forward to the video game.
Shot on Hi-8 - inspiration for filmmakers who want to work with old or outdated video formats - also inspiration for filmmakers who want to make movies with whatever technology available to them. Tells several stories about artists trying to make work. With even a low key love story in there. Probably one of Jon Moritsugu's most accessible movies - if the audience can get past the Hi-8 video look, which is not difficult to do. Overall a sweet, fun, inspiring movie. Kyp Malone from the band TV On the Radio is in this movie, and does a great job playing his character.
Re-watched it in late Aug or early Sept 2020. Saw it back in the day for the first time - in the 1990s, probably when it first came out on VHS. Great movie about making movies. About a Hong Kong movie star coming to Paris to work on a movie - a remake of an old French series about a gang of thieves. Fun, stylish, great music, great cinematography and editing.
