I was kinda hoping this movie would've been better than it actually was. The performances were strong all around but the narration seemed unnecessary and I felt the film would've done fine without it. The first 60 minutes felt like a slog, too. It picks up a bit once Robert Pattinson's character is introduced and the last 30 minutes were entertaining but I wouldn't say this film was anything special, which is sad because the cast and their performances were awesome.
Da 5 Bloods is as succinct a history lesson as you'll get in a 155 minute movie. An all-encompassing tale of the trials and tribulations of black Americans post-Vietnam (or shall I say American) War. It was extremely refreshing to see a war film told from the perspective of African Americans and how they dealt with the fact that they were risking their lives for a country that treated them as second class citizens.
It educates folk about historic personalities…
