Straub might feel tense seeing people's backs, but this isn't a Straub-Huillet film. Shots here are lazy because the production of the film was too. This was filmed in just one day. Didin't even finish as a Godard fan after being interested for months. Even skimming through this reveals how mise-en-scène was just an afterthought. Please Godard, dm me the transcript version of this on Discord so I can enjoy your god damn ideas!

The first true post-Weekend work by Godard which was just finished too late as the production already began in late 1967. His Dziga Vertov period may as well be a test to see if you know the important events of that era and the political mind of Godard, from head to toe. And politics are just one thing of many.

The edgiest film ever made, yet simultaneously one of the most important ever made.

Every interaction in the film feels like an abstraction of desire, a version of the future where capitalism has advanced to the point of leaving humanity with only the drive to pursue, money, sex, and power.

Of course, Noe is such an unconfident hack that he decides to use a splitscreen of 2-3 shots multiple times through the film and just for the sake of it.

EDIT: What I mean by "for the sake of it" is that it doesn't add anything to the film other than defocus and confusion. I am waiting for someone to do something actually innovative with splitscreen.
