Darkman 1990
Polygons, facets, vertices.
Is that all that goes into the making of a face? The shroud that covers the deep dark hole of a man's soul... the veil he uses to buy goods at the market w/o turning into a malignant puddle of agitation? The Darkman's rage is tender and complete. He asks, "What have I become?" Awesome I say. Awesome in every way.I love the movie trope where a fine, upstanding gentleman is stripped of everything. Stripped right…

The Village 2004
Life is a series of long slow goodbyes isn't it? We say goodbye to friendships, we bid adieu to all-knowing work mentors who are shockingly and senselessly canned, we say goodbye to our youth, we say goodbye to our children's youth, and we continuously say goodbye to our former selves. And for that, William Hurt's willful patriarch states: "We are grateful for the time we have been given." Thanks dude. I guess we are what are parents are. Until we're…

Timecop 1994
I can't believe this used to be one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I actually like The Specialist more than this now? As Bob Dylan so succinctly put it: "I used to care...but things have changed." Rob's weird collab whims will do that to ya I guess.
Revisiting this was like having my eyelids pinned open Clockwork Orange-style and having ice picks shoved directly into my balls. Then with my eyes newly wide open and my balls mutilated, this just became…

Instead I am staying up past my bedtime to fulfill Rob's drunken collab and pondering the Sunday Scaries once again. But guess what? Despite being utterly and completely terrible - this was an absolute…

Cop Land 1997
You can look at this film in two ways:
A pseudo-indie film experiment which imploded under the weight of its slumming superstar cast....
Or you can look at it as a kick ass slow burn neo-western in which James Mangold slyly subverts and toys with the underdog Rocky persona...and then eventually celebrates the vengeful forgotten man persona of Rambo. It would have been really interesting to see how this film would have been perceived had it just been Sly and…

Oblivion 2013
Oblivion is a film you may or may not remember from about 7-8 years ago. Tom Cruise is in it playing a man on a post-apocalyptic Earth. There isn’t much to know about the plot other than Cruise bombs around in a cool looking spaceship (and sometimes a futuristic motorbike) looking for damaged drones to repair. He has a partner in a high tower that helps him find these things, and in between missions he finds tchotchkes from “old Earth”…
