Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin

Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin ★★★

I almost didn't give this a star rating for the first time ever because...I don't know? Honestly I think this might be one I keep coming back to?

Do I think this is a bad film? Do I think this is a good film? The only things I keep saying for sure is "this is bizarre" and "this doesn't feel like a Paranormal Activity film". And there are times where that's a good thing and times where not so much

Some choices were definitely made! Including, but not limited to, having no ghosts, randomly having a confrontation scene near the end where this found footage film briefly stops being found footage, a plot (whose synopsis even they kept under wraps until literally release day today) that feels like they wanted to join in on the cult phase Midsommar's popularity brought on, being standalone (the best thing I feel here, fuck jumping through any more hoops to stick with lore or be consistent with the first three or four or whatever entries in that fucked up sisters' life), and having it be directed by William Eubank as his immediate next project after his stellar Underwater

Next of Kin takes a lot of swings and doesn't always miss. Maybe I'll feel worse over time thinking about those misses. Right now that I'm even still thinking of it is an improvement for the franchise, which is just another way it sticks out as not really belonging to it except in name only I guess? I don't know. I don't know much of anything here. Here's a 3 anyway
