Suspiria ★★

"Guadagnino is so busy directing a movie about women in the abstract, witchcraft in the abstract, dance in the abstract, terrorism in the abstract, the Holocaust in the abstract, Berlin and Germany in the abstract, that he doesn't see the people, the places, the characters that he's filming. His camera sees nothing." - Richard Brody for The New Yorker

Also, this is a male writer and male director who are writing about the female experience as a central component of the film's meaning, and their lack of understanding shows. Frankly, it's arrogant of men to assume that they understand women's relationships to one another this intimately. Reminds me of mother!'s male presumption and arrogance. Overall, strong actors drowned out by a lot of pomp and circumstance, all for a pretty hollow movie.
