Legendary. The gangster odyssey does it like know other. While Goodfellas will always be my favorite gangster movie this is still the most comprehensive and arguably most iconic in its genre. Coppola was one of those directors that I bought into more and more after every movie of his that I'd seen and after finally watching the first of his Godfather series it's clear as day that he is a genius of filmmaking.

Death, chaos and absolute depravity. For a little while there I confidently said FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) was my favorite war movie, and I don't know if I can say that still because this is an undoubted masterclass. I'll start with the only negative, in the 2019 Final Cut the scene with the French soldiers dropped the pacing down a little and felt much less impactful then everything else. This film is fraught with stellar performances and to…

I freaking love movies. When I watched maybe a movie a week I knew I enjoyed it but the more I watch the more I find to appreciate. You have directors like Yorgos Lanthimos doing wild and unique stuff like Dogtooth, The Lobster, and Killing of a Sacred Deer and mixed in there he has this brilliant time period piece that was so masterfully done. When I was a youngling, I thought this time period to be so… -

Man, oh man! Is Michael Mann the man or what? Tremendously executed film. Mann brings the action and the dialogue which is something I've found to be really consistent in the films I've seen from him so far. While Tom Cruise is somebody I've bizarrely underrated for awhile, the more I watch him, the more I begin to respect him. This performance is one I found to be brimming and Jamie Foxx upholds his end of the bargain…

Perhaps one of the best horror films of all time if you would consider it horror and I think there's a great argument to be made that it is. The cinematography and script of this film are so on point that it leaves a lot to be admired. This is undoubtedly a film that holds up like a fine wine and is the quintessential "what's that in the water" film. At this point it's so academic that this… -

Christopher Nolan has made the best case thus far in 2023 for a Best Picture Oscar. This is profound, and great to behold. This is a movie best seen in theatre and I don't say that lightly because I enjoy a living room watch as much as the next guy. The nuclear test scene on its own is worth the price of admission. This has spectacular editing, great storytelling/script and a tremendous pace. This solidifies Nolan's place as a cinematic giant in my eyes.
