Maybe it’s the hype, but this was a little disappointing. Mulligan is fantastic, but the film she’s in feels way too surface-level for what it’s attempting to tackle. I don’t know that a film totally detached from reality is the best way to handle very real shit — or maybe they just didn’t pull it off here. Again, it’s highly watchable due to its central performance, humor, and glossy presentation — but if you’re looking for a film that plumbs the depths, this ain’t it.
