big little lies laura dern would absolutely not take back blue velvet kyle maclachlan after having a tryst behind her back.

also, dennis hopper delivered one of my favorite performances of all time.

    ★★★½

unpopular opinion on letterboxd, but i enjoyed this one. despite its flaws like the predictably bad vfx (the shield and the blue eyes took me out) and the rushed narrative of the second half, i thought this was better at introducing characters and explaining things than the 2021 movie. 1984 dune was camp and i liked it.

there’s a sequence early in the film where a school of sorcerers was shooting magic arrows while wanda was throwing red lasers, portraying a shootout like any other marvel movie. it seems like they forgot they can cast spells, warp reality or astral project? the final act, however, was good enough.

tl;dr the movie lacked creativity and imagination

exceptional performances, but somehow i was underwhelmed by the third act. also, the young rory kinnear scared the shit out of me.

ending this year’s pride month with one of the best and most important lgbt movies of all time. mahershala ali’s juan is probably my top five movie dad, although technically he’s not. happy pride, everyone!

somehow much better than the first time i watched this. the ‘space age love song’ needledrop and that what-if moment were, in my opinion, some of the best scenes in modern queer cinema. thank you, lucio castro.

a therapist once told me i should only watch lighthearted films before bedtime, yet here i am, doing the exact opposite. at least neither of them died, so i’d like to think that open ending was a happy one.
