The operatic components — use of ensemble, Simon Helberg as an MC (sort of), clear act distinction on both narrative and visual terms — are very well utilized for the film’s meta tragedy, just an operatic story in and of itself. I liked the music, the timbre of Adam Driver’s voice (when he’s talking more so than when he’s singing), the absurdity of some of the visuals, the celebrity commentary, the cunnilingus. So why didn’t I love it? Who knows!

P.S. What’s a guy gotta do to get Marion Cotillard’s corpse to crossfade into bed next to him?
