I don't know how anyone could resist Kurt Russell and his trumpet.
Watched this on TCM which I can only assume is the theatrical cut. There's also Demme's director's cut which is said to be vastly different with over a third of the film replaced and the footage that is shared between the two versions edited completely different. I still enjoyed this for what it was though it never really finds a second gear. It's never overly dramatic or humorous or romantic. It just feels like a milquetoast period piece elevated by the likeability of Russell and Hawn and a strong supporting cast.
