Charming, joyful and for its time technically impressive family film without the typical over the top Disney schmaltz. And yet, it was genuinely difficult to watch for the first time being an adult, especially with the horrific German sync. It's thirty minutes longer than it needed to be, there is almost no narrative drive, the movie feels emotionally numb for the most part and it might entail some of the worst child acting I've ever seen. Yes, the 60s might not have been the greatest decade for family films, but many of them are far better than this one, which to me didn't age well and does not live up to ist legendary fame.
