Perhaps drawing inspiration from Evil Dead II (assuming time travel is involved somehow), as well as Motel Hell (which Hooper almost directed), this follow-up to the immortal classic eschews gritty realism in favor of over-the-top insanity and dark humor. With an almost comic book aesthetic, much more gore, cannibalism as a business endeavor, the addition of Dennis Hopper as an unhinged former Texas Ranger wielding dual chainsaws and out for revenge, and a climactic chainsaw duel between Hopper and Leatherface, this film has an undeniable charm despite going in a completely different direction than the first. Also, the chainsaw dance that Stretch (Caroline Williams) does at the end is just icing on an already moist and delicious cake. In fact, Stretch is just great all the way through this.
