Carax's Histoire(s) du cinema: half-American, half-French. The end of a (hi)story, a history of men in anguish, a history of women in images. An American film - the linear, inescapable time, Vidor's The Crowd, Stevens' A Place in the Sun (Moon), and so there will not be an Mr. Oscar defying the logic of death, but only Adam Driver going towards his inevitable doom; A French film, something very old and already buried, the ghosts of the expressionists haunt back to us: Jean Epstein, Abel Gance, Delluc, Renoir... reviving for one last time, for an end.
