    would certainly also add a lovely dash in the mix from her assistant role in clouds of sils maria, and the complicated same-sex love story.

    kind of surprised from assayas here - where fairly well done, this is a pretty straight ahead modern redux that smooths over the edges that made the original so magnetic.

    but hey, what do i know?

    This film does none of that. It's a warm and fuzzy softball pitch that gets by on its glib laughs, telling a pretty standard coming-of-age tale that doesn't need to make light of Nazi Germany for any narrative or thematic purpose.
