I donβt watch a lot of new Pixar/Disney animated moviesπ€·ββοΈ & I only really ever go back to the OGs I grew up with, so when I do catch one like this, it does take me back and just makes me miss being a kidβ¦π€£ππππππππ’πͺ
I did grow up with the Toy Story franchise. So when I first heard about Lightyear, I thought it was the perfect idea, while simultaneously being the perfect cash grab attempt. Then I see it gets marketed as Andyβs βStar Warsβ and I actually got pretty hyped for it.Β
Wellβ¦β¦ itβs not nearly as lore filled or epic to be on THAT level, but I guess I can see this being Andyβs fav movie, because if I was a kid watching this, it woulda probably been up there with some of my fav (animated)movies too(which isnβt a long list). I love scifi adventures and this really just offers one big fun one, which made things easy to get into. I enjoyed the directions they took with this story/beloved character & the overall message it deals with. Chris Evans nails it as Buzz. Iβm also a huge sucker for Taika Waititi and everyone else is voice acted nicely. Oh and of course the crowd fav Sox will be what mostly everyone comes outta this praising, which Iβm ALLLL for. The callbacks and explanations for certain things we know, worked well for the most part. On the villain side and how Zurg is handled, i found to be really interesting. & the last major thing that took me to peak enjoyment, was just how awesome this looked visually. The animation style was flawless and although I did say the same for Toy Story 4, this took it even further AND better with those visuals.
So with a really strong start and managing to keep things enjoyable throughout, I do get some of the complaints. Like just how generic/uninspired the story can feel at times or even down to the writing and pacing. Yet again, did check mostΒ of the scifi boxes for me and believe it or not, I had a reallyΒ good time with Lightyear. 7.5/10π¨βπ
