A bio-doc with lots of archival footage and sit down interviews with family and acquaintances. Mainly interesting as sentimental fodder for boomers which mean I enjoyed it just fine.
As opposed to more “natural” performers (BB King or any artist in the Fat Possum stable) Wolf was an Old School Entertainer - he had a stage persona that he put forth.
I can imagine it was disappointing for the filmmakers to find, underneath the powerful stage presence to find no more than a guy who drives his Pontiac to the hardware store to pick up light bulbs on his days off.
No drugs, no booze, no women, no tantrums, no drama, no harm, no blood, no gunshots, no ambulance.
Just a straight up guy (with an albeit horrific childhood) living a middle class existence in a loving, functional family.
Who knew that was possible?
