Glad I went back, because I did indeed get a much better handle on what this is going for. A stew of allegories, about the post-war German psyche, the inflexibility of art, the distressing flexibility of the human body, the futility of the couple in David Bowie's "Heroes", The Scarlet Letter(!!!), and above all, just being nice to your stepmom. Stand up and thank her, as long as you keep dancing.
