Goodfellas is up there with the Irishman as one of my favorite gangster epics. This felt a lot like Casino except it was just...better.
Second movie seen in the theater in 2021. Just incredibly solid. I legitimately felt as if I was watching Star Wars for the first time as a child. From the first frame I was intrigued by the world that Ridley Scott had crafted. The set design is so incredibly advanced and blew me away. The pacing felt strange but I understand that he had to work with what he had. A fundamental horror film and addition to the realm of sci-fi.
Put simply, its very good.
Palm Springs really caused a lot of buzz at Sundance and now we all get to see why. This light-hearted comedy refuses to settle into conventional tropes and becomes something unique. Warm, endearing characters and a timeless tale.
Hard to say anything bad about such a well made film. The chiastic structure of the plot begs the viewer to connect the dots of parallel themes and emotions. The casting is supreme. Dialogue is incredible. Florence Pugh as Amy steals the show.
