WINTER "HIGH ART" MARATHON #21
One of the best movies of the decade, which is thankfully starting to get the audience it deserves. Even among the best Coen Brothers films.
Aside from The Big Lebowski, I dunno if I hold another Coen film closer to my heart. It's so brutally honest and heartbreaking that it leaves me in a sort of bittersweet headspace throughout. It doesn't really have a happy or an inherently sad ending. You make what you want out of it.
Regardless of how bleak this film is, it never loses its sense of humor. Every character feels like they've been living in this movie their whole life. Nobidy is phoning in their performances, and speaking of performances, the fucking music in this movie, maaaaan.
This has one of the best soundtracks of any movie I've ever seen. Even if you don't love folk music, I obviously recommend this movie quite a lot. It's got everything I want in a dramedy.
