  A little meandering (sometimes literally), but when it's good it's damn good. Toshiro Mifune and Takashi Shimura have excellent chemistry, it looks incredible, and there are lots of interesting little insights into post-war Japan.

  This movie is tons of fun, right up to the moment where it suddenly and decisively isn't any at all. Does a good job of showing how a lonely, bullied kid could be lured into the skinhead movement, before exposing the rotten underbelly of violence, misdirected anger, and hatred. Great cast, especially Stephen Graham, who is terrifying but never cartoonish (and all the scarier for it).
