Jack’s review published on Letterboxd:
Nolan does it again.
From the get go you're thrown into this war, and when I say war I mean WAR. The action scenes are raw and realistic to the point where it literally feels like you're out there with them and it's actually quite frightening. (Your ears will be ringing with gunfire all night.)
We are gifted with terrific performances from the entire cast here. Fionn Whitehead, Mark Rylance, Harry Styles (i know right!?) and the one and only Tom Hardy are standouts and really make this film what it is due to the fact there's very little dialogue throughout.
As with all Nolan films the score is phenomenal, Zimmer is back again proving why he's the best in the business. The ticking clock is the simplest yet most exhilarating thing in this film. Goosebumps.
The characters are lacking and i'd be lying if i said it doesn't detract from the film as a whole. No, I wasnt expecting full backstories on each character and for them to have cups of tea together discussing life but geez this film would've gone to whole other level if you could just get to know and root for these guys.
The ending is so overwhelming I actually had tears in my eyes, not because its sad, but because it was, well, special. It's hard to explain. All in all, this is stunning work again from Nolan and everyone involved. Go see this immediately!
