Jack’s review published on Letterboxd:
Indie cinema’s beloved Debra Granik’s newest film is really well acted and directed but man does it leave a lot to be desired. My biggest problem was how much of this felt like a million other films I’d already seen before; Room, Hunt For The Wilderpeople, Into The Wild... the list goes on, and although it does everything well enough to be somewhat ignored, it still really bugged me. Not particularly a fan of the ending either, or the pacing, or the lacklustre score, but I’ll redirect focus back on Thomasin McKenzie for now because she is incredible in this, very worthy of all the praise she’s getting. Her & Foster’s chemistry throughout really saved the film for me; not enough for it to hit me emotionally though, unfortunately.
