Jack’s review published on Letterboxd:
Had me in it’s grasp the first hour but slowly but surely slipped away the more it dragged on. Appreciate the direction although I don’t think it’s all that great and some of the camerawork throughout is fantastic but by far the best thing about this is the lead performances from Pugh & Reynor. Apart from that though, this falls pretty flat. It’s extremely tedious, it’s not very compelling, it seems familiar due to The Wicker Man (which I also don’t necessarily like) and the whole premise isn’t anywhere near as strong or as smart as Hereditary’s. I’m sure Ari Aster has a bright career ahead of him but this wasn’t for me.
