There's been a lot of essays written about why we make movies. Often times it's to entertain us, sometime to make a message, but what Moonlight arims to achieve is to capture something. To capture some part of the human experience, to tell the story of someones life, in through him, help us understand ourselves better.
And in that matter, it does very well.
Through some spectacular cinematography and directing, Moonlight weaves together the story of a life which manages to be both moving and thoughtful.
It's definetly a film that shows just what we can do with film as an artform and with story telling in general. As such, it deserves the destinction of being one of the best movies of the 2010s.
