i like that gunn as a writer has a sense of character and leaves space in his formula to carve out their quirks and emotional histories and the finds ways to develop them through the action but he's made this same film like what? 3 or 4 times now? luckily this is one of the funnier endeavors where he does his own stylistically manic men-on-a-mission movie and gets to bring his juvenile troma sensibilities, legit gruesome gore gags and even vaguely thorny political subtext to something that costs this much money but idk i feel like you can only watch so many weirdo misfits who pushback against the ugliness of the world by becoming a makeshift family and saving the world, etc. and still get something out of it.
