Cock of the Air

Cock of the Air ★★★

An early sequence of masks and streamers and masterful dollies at some backlot Venetian carnival shows moments of transcendent, blissful genius that dissipate quickly once the central romance gets started. There are a couple good gags and some pretty interiors, but nothing to compare with the vitality of those opening reels. A good case study in restoration ethics.
